    Woodbridge School District is accepting applications for a Special Education Teacher at WMS. This is a full-time, 10-month, benefit-eligible teaching position.

    JOB SUMMARY:

    We are seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Special Education Teacher who is passionate about supporting diverse learners. The ideal candidate will hold certification in Special Education, with a preference for candidates who have additional certification in middle school math or ELA. The candidate should demonstrate expertise in differentiating instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning styles and abilities, including those with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).

    This position involves designing and delivering engaging, standards-based instruction for grades 6â8, implementing effective interventions, and collaborating closely with general education teachers, paraprofessionals, related service providers, and families to promote student success. The teacher will monitor progress, adjust instruction based on data, and foster a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that encourages critical thinking, problem-solving, and a growth mindset.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

    • Must hold or be eligible for teaching certification in special education in the State of Delaware
    • Must hold or be eligible for a content certification in the State of Delaware, elementary education K-6, middle/secondary math and/or middle/secondary ELA certification is preferred
    • Experience working with students with diverse learning needs and disabilities
    • Strong knowledge of mathematics content
    • Ability to design and implement differentiated instruction that meets the needs of all learners
    • Excellent communication and organizational skills
    • Passion for teaching and dedication to student success
    • Ability to create an inclusive, respectful, and positive learning environment

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging math instruction aligned with state standards and the school's curriculum for students in grades 6â8.
    • Create and maintain a supportive, inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, collaboration, and academic success for all learners.
    • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Multilingual Language Learners (MLLs), and students requiring additional academic support.
    • Design and implement lessons that incorporate accommodations and modifications to ensure access to the general education curriculum for students with disabilities.
    • Use a variety of formative and summative assessments to monitor student progress, analyze data, and adjust instruction to improve learning outcomes.
    • Develop, implement, and monitor IEPs in collaboration with parents, general education teachers, and related service providers.
    • Participate actively in IEP meetings to set measurable goals, review progress, and ensure compliance with federal and state special education regulations.
    • Deliver targeted, evidence-based interventions through small group and one-on-one instruction to address specific learning needs in mathematics.
    • Adapt instructional materials, resources, and technology to support diverse learning styles and promote engagement.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress, IEP goals, assessment results, and behavior data.
    • Communicate regularly and effectively with parents, guardians, and staff regarding student progress, classroom behavior, and individualized supports.
    • Provide strategies and resources for parents to support their child's learning and reinforce skills at home.
    • Collaborate with grade-level and special education teams to plan interdisciplinary lessons and coordinate academic and behavioral supports.
    • Attend faculty meetings, professional development sessions, and school events to stay informed and contribute to the school community.
    • Maintain a well-organized, structured classroom environment that supports focus, independence, and responsibility among students.
    • Submit required reports, documentation, and evaluations in a timely and accurate manner.

    WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS:

    This is a 10-month position based on a 188-day annual contract. Employees are expected to work 7.5 hours per day, consistent with the established school and district schedules. Responsibilities may include duties beyond instructional time, such as meetings, professional development, and school-related events. Employees are expected to maintain regular attendance, fulfill all assigned responsibilities, and demonstrate flexibility to meet the evolving needs of students, staff, and the district.
