Job Details

I. Job Summary

The Comprehensive Needs Special Education Teacher is responsible for planning, delivering, and evaluating educational programs for students with comprehensive needs, who require intensive individualized support across academic, behavioral, and daily-living domains in self-contained and inclusive environments across grades JK-8.

II. Job Responsibilities

  • The position requires close collaboration with general educators, related-service personnel, instructional assistants, administrators, and parents to ensure student access to the general curriculum and attainment of Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals.

III. Essential Job Functions

  • Instruction & Curriculum: • Plan and implement direct instruction aligned to each students IEP. • Differentiate, modify, and adapt general-education materials. • Integrate augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) visual supports and other assistive technology. • Provide instruction in functional academics, daily living, and vocational skills. • Foster inclusive social opportunities.

  • IEP & Assessment: • Develop, maintain, and update IEPs in compliance with state and federal regulations. • Collect, analyze, and report student performance data, adjusting instruction based on data. • Administer or coordinate alternate assessments and progress monitoring.

  • Collaboration & Supervision: • Create daily student and staff schedules. • Supervise and provide feedback to instructional assistants. • Coordinate with general-education teachers to plan inclusive and specially designed instruction. • Lead and document team meetings, facilitating problem-solving and staff training.

  • Behavior & Health Supports: • Design and implement behavior-support plans and classroom management systems. • Implement individualized health feeding and toileting protocols. • Model behavior management and health protocols for support staff.

  • Family & Stakeholder Communication: • Maintain regular individualized communication with parents/guardians. • Demonstrate effective written and oral communication with students, staff, and community members.

IV. Qualifications

  • Illinois PEL Licensure with LBS 1 Endorsement
  • Trained in Crisis Prevention and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention

V. Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: Commensurate with the current agreement between the District and the Kenilworth Educators Association
