Position: Special Education Teacher - Elementary Intervention Specialist
Term: 2026-2027 School Year
Reports to: Building Principal
Licensure and Experience:
- Ohio Intervention Specialist License
- Ability to instruct students in Grades K-3 or 4-6 unit with disabilities including academic, behavioral and physical special needs in a cross-categorical school setting

Qualifications:
- Valid Ohio Special Education Teaching Certificate/License
- Clear BCI and FBI records
Performance Responsibilities:
- Work cooperatively with general education teachers, interpreting the abilities and disabilities of students, assist in classroom intervention strategies, modify general education curricula as required, and assist the students with general education class assignments and assessments
- Communicate regularly with parents and staff regarding the educational, social and personal needs of students
- Assist special education students in making an assessment of his/her abilities and in establishing educational and vocational occupational goals in keeping with these abilities
- Develop and implement an Individualized Educational Program (IEP) for each child, complimentary to his/her educational strengths and needs as defined through the Evaluation Team Report (ETR) and IEP process, and Regular Education Curriculum
- Participate in IEP and ETR meetings
- Develop and implement appropriate post-secondary transition goals, assessments, experiences and training for students 14 years of age
- Prepare daily lesson plans, strategies and activities to meet identified needs of students
- Assess students with appropriate diagnostic instruments and evaluate student progress
- Comply with the Operating Standards for the Education of Children with Disabilities, regarding placement, instruction and evaluation of students with disabilities
- Complete necessary reports and record keeping as required by state and local policies and procedures
- Participate in professional growth activities through workshops, district trainings and higher education
- Maintain a safe and functional classroom including a management system; provide for special behavioral needs required through a Functional Behavioral Assessment and Behavior Plan; document/report all significant behavior concerns
- Administer all assessments required by the district or state including alternate assessments if required
- Refer students and parents to local support agencies and coordinate services with the agencies
- Monitor students in non-academic situations (assemblies, unloading/loading of busses, fire drills and hallways)
- Provide direction and guidance to classroom aides through the establishment of procedures, daily schedule and coordinated implementation of goals and objectives in the IEP
- Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or his/her designee
