Position Details:
Title: Special Education Teacher
Location: Cedarhurst, NY
Start Date: August 26, 2026
Onsite/Virtual: Onsite
Position Type: Contract
Student Age Group: Ungraded (students are ages 12 to 21)
Responsibilities:
Provide specialized instruction aligned with each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans based on students' academic and functional abilities.
Create a positive, structured, and inclusive classroom environment.
Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation.
Collaborate with related service providers, administrators, paraprofessionals, and families.
Participate in IEP meetings, annual reviews, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
Utilize positive behavior management strategies to support student success.
Modify curriculum, instructional materials, and assessments to meet diverse learning needs.
Maintain compliance with all New York State special education regulations and school policies.
Qualifications:
Valid New York State Teaching Certification in one of the following: Grades 1-6 (acceptable) 7-12 Special Education.
Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
Experience working with students with disabilities preferred.
Strong classroom management and communication skills.
Ability to differentiate instruction for students with varying academic and developmental needs.
Master's degree in Education or Special Education (preferred).
Previous experience working with adolescents and young adults with special needs.
Experience implementing IEPs and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Knowledge of evidence-based instructional and behavioral intervention strategies.
