    Job Description

    Summary

    Seeking a creative, compassionate, and adaptable Special Education Teacher to provide engaging instruction for students in grades 6–12 within a Chapter 766-approved school.

    This position is ideal for an educator who enjoys developing individualized learning experiences and working with students who benefit from additional academic, behavioral, and social-emotional support. You will deliver standards-based instruction, implement IEP accommodations, monitor student progress, and collaborate with colleagues and families to help each student succeed.

    The successful candidate will bring flexibility, creativity, strong relationship-building skills, and a commitment to maintaining a safe and supportive learning environment.

    What You’ll Do

    • Develop and implement curriculum aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and applicable academic standards.
    • Deliver structured lessons and activities aligned with students’ current IEPs.
    • Provide challenging, motivating, and relevant learning experiences for students in grades 6–12.
    • Differentiate instruction based on individual academic abilities, learning styles, IEP requirements, and student needs.
    • Provide individualized interventions, modifications, and accommodations as appropriate.
    • Integrate technology and varied instructional methods into lesson planning and classroom instruction.
    • Establish a physically safe, intellectually engaging, and supportive classroom environment consistent with special education best practices.
    • Model and reinforce appropriate academic, behavioral, and social expectations.
    • Assist in developing and implementing IEPs as appropriate.
    • Monitor, assess, and document student academic progress.
    • Complete required student progress reports, grading, and educational documentation.
    • Participate in school assessment practices and the Academy’s IAP program.
    • Establish and maintain effective communication with parents and guardians.
    • Participate in teacher meetings, department meetings, staff meetings, professional development, and relevant school events.
    • Collaborate with colleagues and other school professionals to support student achievement.
    • Maintain compliance with school, program, and agency policies, standards, and protocols.
    • Maintain required First Aid, CPR, and TCI certifications through provided training.

    Experience You’ll Need

    • Bachelor’s degree required.
    • Appropriate Massachusetts curriculum-area teaching certification/licensure.
    • Moderate Disabilities 5–12 licensure preferred.
    • At least 6 months of classroom experience as a teacher, co-teacher, paraprofessional, instructional aide, or similar role preferred.
    • Ability to develop and deliver differentiated instruction for students with varying academic and learning needs.
    • Knowledge of IEP implementation, accommodations, and individualized interventions.
    • Ability to establish a structured and supportive classroom environment.
    • Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
    • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a multidisciplinary school team.
    • Flexibility and creativity when responding to changing student or classroom needs.
