Special Education Teacher - Learners Exploratory Academic Program (LEAP)
Assist administrators, teachers and staff in developing individualized educational programs (IEP) and provide direct instruction to students with disabilities who present with moderate global delays and require a smaller, more structured learning environment.
- Select teaching strategies for implementing IEP goals and objectives for assigned students.
- Maintain continuous performance data on student IEP objectives and documents progress on IEP forms.
- Monitor and adjust teaching strategies to the students'' changing needs.
- Coordinate specialized instruction with regular education curriculum as appropriate.
- Establish classroom management programs for students.
- Train and supervise paraprofessionals as required.
- Develop Life Skills and Functional Academics Program that are embedded in the curriculum throughout the school day.
- Act as the conduit between service providers for seamless and inclusionary delivery of services.
- Prepare and apply current special education practices and theories inclusive of a familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) strategies.
- Establish, monitor and adjust behavior management plans for individual students needs.
- Work cooperatively with staff to implement, train and monitor specialized behavior plans with appropriate students. Develop curriculum and programs to reflect current abilities of students'' individualized needs.
- Access available resources, personnel, literature, research and professional development for personal growth.
- Complete all required reports and IEPs in an accurate and timely manner.
- Work effectively with multidisciplinary teams and other professionals regarding needs of students for assuring appropriate learning experiences.
- Communicate appropriately and effectively with parents, staff and students.
- Inform Building Principal/staff on progress of assigned students.
- Maintain data systems to accurately record confidential student information.
- Conduct appropriate assessments to determine program eligibility and services needs.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor.
Salary according to the Agreement between the Norwood School Committee and the Norwood Teachers'' Association (Unit A)
