Special Education Teacher (LBS1) – Elementary Autism Classroom

Location: McHenry, IL
Schedule: 34 hours per week
Contract Dates: August 17, 2026 – May 26, 2027

We are currently seeking a licensed Special Education Teacher (LBS1) to support an elementary self-contained autism classroom in the McHenry, IL area. This is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative team in a newly established classroom designed to meet the growing needs of students.

Position Details

  • Elementary school setting (Grades 1–2)

  • Self-contained autism classroom

  • Approximately 8 students

  • Supported by 3 dedicated paraprofessionals

  • Collaborative team with related service providers

  • Newly opened classroom due to increased student enrollment

  • 34 hours per week

  • Daily schedule: 8:45 AM – 4:05 PM (30-minute unpaid lunch)

  • Full school year contract: August 17, 2026 – May 26, 2027

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide individualized instruction aligned with each student's IEP goals

  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans that support academic, behavioral, social, and functional growth

  • Foster a structured, positive, and inclusive classroom environment

  • Collaborate with paraprofessionals, related service providers, and school staff to support student success

  • Monitor student progress and maintain accurate documentation

  • Participate in IEP meetings and communicate effectively with families and multidisciplinary team members

  • Utilize evidence-based instructional and behavior management strategies

Qualifications

  • Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)

  • LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I) endorsement required

  • New graduates are encouraged to apply with appropriate licensure

  • Ability to work onsite (virtual or hybrid candidates are not eligible)
