JOB DESCRIPTION

INSTRUCTIONAL SUPPORT TEACHER

DEFINITION: Under the direction of the Director of Special Services, provides instruction to special education students individually and/or general classroom setting.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Provides direct instructional support to students with special needs, individually and/or general classroom setting.
  • Provides consultation to staff and parents of special needs students.
  • Conducts assessments, develops IEPs and participates in IEP meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of:

  • District standards and benchmarks.
  • District core curriculum.
  • Special education regulations.
  • A variety of instructional strategies appropriate for different disability types.
  • Successful collaboration and co-teaching strategies.

Ability to:

  • Provide special education assessments.
  • Write legally compliant and educationally meaningful assessment reports.
  • Work in a collaborative relationship with parents, and general and special education staff members.
  • Develop and implement a functional behavior plan.
  • Provide staff development.

Education:

Appropriate California teaching credential.
