Position Overview
Plainfield Community Middle School is seeking a dedicated and adaptable Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning, emotional, and developmental needs. In this role, you will manage a caseload of students requiring individualized academic and social-emotional support, balancing differentiated instruction with positive behavioral interventions to help them achieve their full potential in the least restrictive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Instruction: Plan, differentiate, and deliver individualized academic lessons adapted to meet various learning styles and student needs.
- IEP Management: Develop, implement, and track Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), setting measurable goals and leading annual review meetings.
- Behavior Support: Maintain a positive, structured classroom culture by implementing accommodation plans, behavior interventions, and supportive de-escalation strategies.
- Assessment & Tracking: Regularly assess student progress, collect data on academic and behavioral goals, and use insights to drive instructional changes.
- Collaboration: Partner closely with general education teachers, parents, administrators, and specialized support staff (social workers, speech therapists, etc.) to ensure holistic student success.
Qualifications
- Valid teaching license in Special Education
- Experience working with students with a range of learning disabilities, developmental delays, or mild behavioral needs.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to analyze data to inform instruction and IEP development.
