JOB DESCRIPTION: Creates a classroom environment favorable to learning and personal growth of students enrolled in an education setting. Establishes effective rapport with students. Motivates students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for becoming a responsible citizen in accordance with each pupil's ability.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, parents, school and agency counselors and related service providers to support students who require special education services Assist in the development and implementation of the individual education service and transition plan for students enrolled in the education setting Guide students through a program of study which meets stated objectives and prepares students to master grade level standards Instruct students in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and policies and procedures of Birmingham City Schools Collaborate with the teacher of record to develop lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with curriculum standards; provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students Translate lesson plans into learning experiences to best utilize the available time for instruction and to actively engage students Evaluate academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary Communicate regularly with parents or guardians through conferences and other means to discuss student progress and areas of concern Supervise and monitor student movement and escorts students to resources, bathrooms, buses, cafeteria, room changes and other activities in the building Administer standardized testing Use current technology for instruction and management purposes. Perform other duties as assigned.
