Role and Responsibilities
The following additional job description information is to be considered and included along with the Teacher job description for the position of Special Education Teacher.
- Coordinate with other involved school personnel in planning and providing joint instruction for the student with a disability.
- Work collaboratively with general education teachers to provide Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) and meet Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) requirements for students with disabilities.
- Ability to apply knowledge of push-in/ pull-out models and provide consultative assistance to regular classroom teachers on differentiation, accommodations and research-based interventions.
- Facilitate inclusion of special education students through ongoing communication with administration and the general education staff.
- Interpret special education policies, procedures, and guidelines to regular educational personnel.
- Share and modify materials and knowledge with other personnel in the building.
- Provide continuous staff development training or regular education staff.
- Serve as a member of the school's MTSS team by providing evaluation, support, and consultation to general education teachers through the SST process.
- Deliver instructional intervention and student support services to students with IEPs within the resource room setting as well as within the general education classroom.
- Ability to evaluate students' current levels of academic performance using district standards for Special Education Testing (iReady/WJ-IV) and assessment data of progress towards IEP goals and the curriculum
- Ability to plan, organize, schedule, and facilitate parent meetings such as parent-teacher conferences, MET, and IEPs within required timeline
- Write measurable goals and objectives for each student as mandated by Federal, State and County agencies.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree from accredited college institution.
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the Melvindale-Northern Allen Park Public School District for this position.
- Special Education (SA, SE, SM, or SV) endorsement preferred.
Working Schedule and Rate of Pay:
40 week per year position (teacher work calendar)
Salary according to master contract
