Job Summary

Under the direction of the Principal the Classroom Teacher is responsible for classroom instruction in the areas for which the teacher is credentialed, authorized, and assigned to teach. The teacher identifies students' needs in relation to curricular objectives; applies a program of instruction consistent with students' learning needs, objectives, and instructional materials; uses appropriate teaching strategies; assesses student progress; creates and manages a classroom environment conducive to student learning; and communicates with parents regularly regarding the students' academic and social progress.

Provides instruction, appropriate to the educational program of the District, to assigned students according to needs; provides parents with regular evaluations of their child's progress in the program; assists other staff members in the implementation of the overall educational program of the District. Reports to: School Principal Supervises: None TYPES OF DUTIES: 1.Teaches the adopted course of study for the assigned grade level and subject. 2.Prepares plans appropriate for the instructional activities needed by students in the assigned classroom. 3.Plans and directs the work of an instructional aide, if one has been assigned. 4.Maintains records and submits reports as required. 5.Reports periodically to parents on the program of their child. QUALIFICATIONS: 1.Appropriate California Teaching Credential authorizing service in K-8 schools and classroom assigned. 2.Knowledge of instructional methodologies. 3.Excellent communication skills. 4.Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with administration, staff and community. DESIRABLE: 1.Demonstrated initiative. 2.Demonstrated organizational ability. 3.Classroom teaching experience. Approved by Board: Feb. 21, 1991
