    Job Description

    Marblehead Public Schools seeks a compassionate, skilled, and collaborative Special Education Teacher to lead a Therapeutic Learning Classroom serving students in grades K-3. This specialized program is designed to support students with social, emotional, behavioral, and learning needs through a highly structured, relationship-centered environment that fosters academic growth, emotional regulation, and increased access to inclusive educational experiences.

    Key Responsibilities

    Student Learning & Instruction

    • Provide individualized and small-group specialized instruction aligned with students' IEPs and the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
    • Design and implement engaging, differentiated lessons that support both academic achievement and social-emotional development.
    • Create a structured, predictable, and supportive learning environment that promotes self-regulation, resilience, and student independence.
    • Utilize evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices to support diverse learning needs.

    Social-Emotional & Behavioral Support

    • Implement Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSPs), Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and other individualized supports.
    • Utilize trauma-informed, restorative, and therapeutic approaches to support student success.
    • Employ proactive de-escalation strategies and crisis intervention techniques when needed.
    • Foster students' social-emotional competencies, including self-awareness, self-management, relationship skills, responsible decision-making, and social awareness.
    • Collect and analyze behavioral and social-emotional data to inform instruction and intervention planning.

    IEP Development & Progress Monitoring

    • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
    • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, academic performance, and behavioral growth.
    • Prepare reports and participate in Team meetings, evaluations, and annual reviews.

    Collaboration & School Community

    • Collaborate closely with general education teachers, related service providers, school counselors, behavior specialists, administrators, and families to provide comprehensive student support.
    • Supervise and support educational support professionals in implementing instructional and behavioral interventions.
    • Communicate regularly and effectively with families to build strong home-school partnerships.
    • Contribute positively to a collaborative school culture grounded in inclusion, belonging, and high expectations for all students.
    • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-wide initiatives.
    • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all district, state, and federal regulations, including FERPA.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the building principal or Director of Student Services.
