GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES: The special education teacher will provide services as designated on IEPs, work cooperatively with general education teachers in providing access to the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks to all special education students, and be responsive to the needs of students at NCAHS. The teacher will participate in special education evaluations as requested, complete all necessary mandatory paperwork in accordance with MGL c. 71B, 603 CMR 28.00, and IDEA requirements. In addition to special education services, this position may also include a small caseload of Multilingual Learners (MLLs), requiring collaboration across departments to support students' academic and language development.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

Special Education: Plan, organize, and provide appropriate learning experiences within the assigned area of responsibility. Provide instruction as indicated in IEPs. Establish and maintain an instructional atmosphere conducive to learning. Contribute to the continuous development of curriculum and the improvement of instruction. Familiarity with special education IEP Software and ability to use this software to write IEPs and progress reports. Perform all required duties (supervision, attendance taking, student-parent conferences, department/staff meetings, etc.). Maintain up-to-date and accurate records and reports necessary for effectively managing the school program and Special Education, and act as the liaison for students on IEPs. Develop IEPs cooperatively with families and other staff members and manage, report on, and monitor IEP progress. Communicate with families and other teachers to provide appropriate services to students and monitor progress toward objectives. Special Education teachers shall teach Inclusion Classes as assigned: Will co-teach, plan, grade assignments, and be involved in classroom management activities on an equal basis with the regular education teacher. Will work with general education teachers, recommending instructional strategies, learning style preferences, and accommodations for special needs learners as needed in a regular classroom. Apply various teaching techniques to the delivery of instruction and demonstrate appropriate application of interdisciplinary instruction. Assist with MCAS administration as necessary, and assist with managing and providing accommodations for students with disabilities. Participate in professional development activities that align with school-wide educational goals. Update professional skills by attending conferences, meetings, workshops, and other professional development and related career training activities. Develop goals and complete all activities relative to professional development and the teacher evaluation system. Perform other duties as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Massachusetts licensure: Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities (5-12) SEI Endorsement Experience working with students with disabilities. Knowledge of inclusive practices, co-teaching models, and differentiated instruction Familiarity with IEP development, progress monitoring, and compliance requirements Strong collaboration, communication, and organizational skills Commitment to equity, inclusion, and culturally responsive teaching Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license and/or a US Passport.
