GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Team Chair is responsible for leading all IEP Team meetings and ensuring that the special education process remains compliant with all regulatory timelines, reflects best practices, and results in high-quality programming implemented with fidelity. This role includes close collaboration with special education liaisons, general education staff, administrators, students, and families to design, implement, and monitor effective service delivery models. The Team Chair also oversees transitions for incoming and current students, maintains accurate data systems, and serves as a consultant on special education programming and compliance.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES: Chair all IEP Team meetings. Ensure the IEP process is compliant with regulatory standards and timelines, reflects best practices, and results in high-quality programming implemented with integrity. Collaborate with special education liaisons to develop, review, and, when necessary, construct sections of IEPs to ensure compliance and quality. Communicate effectively with students, families/guardians, staff, and administration regarding student programming and services. Work with teams to develop and implement efficient and effective programs and service delivery models aligned with best practices and inclusive education. Assist in the coordination of and participate in transition meetings for students entering high school or transitioning between programs. Oversee the transition of IEPs from sending districts for incoming grade nine students and transfer students. Coordinate required transition documentation, including but not limited to: Age of Majority Transfer of Parental Rights Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission (MRC) referrals Chapter 688 Referral Process Maintain data systems, including PowerSchool/Special Programs, related to initial referrals, reevaluations, and service delivery. Assist with SIMS state reporting requirements. Assist in planning and coordination of standardized assessments to ensure alignment with IEP accommodations and services. Maintain accurate records of caseload assignments for teachers and support staff; make recommendations to ensure appropriate staffing levels. Serve as a consultant to staff on matters related to the education of students with disabilities. Attend and participate in faculty meetings, special education department meetings, and student support team meetings. Meet regularly with the Director of Student Services or designee to ensure alignment of services and compliance. Maintain compliance with professional standards and remain current with state and federal regulations, including 603 CMR 28.00. Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Student Services or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor's Degree in Special Education or a related field; Master's Degree required in accordance with MA DESE regulations. Massachusetts DESE licensure in Moderate Disabilities (5-12) Experience in a high school setting, preferably including experience chairing IEP Team meetings. Demonstrated knowledge of inclusive practices and tiered supports. Strong understanding of Massachusetts special education regulations, including eligibility determination, evaluation interpretation, IEP development, and transition planning. Experience collaborating effectively with general and special education staff. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent-Director or designee may find appropriate and in conformity with state and federal law. Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license and/or a US Passport.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Special Education Administrator licensure Experience with PowerSchool/Special Programs or similar student information systems. Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills. Experience supporting program development and coaching staff in special education practices.
