Position: Special Needs Tutor

Location: 13301 41st Rd. Flushing, NY 11355

Salary Range: $30 per hour

Hours: 4-10 hours per week

Employment Type: Part-Time, Non-Exempt

Job Summary

Tutors will work one-on-one and/or in small groups with boys between 7-13 years of age, who require special education instruction and modifications, administer diagnostics on boys with academic needs when appropriate, support other tutors in their instruction techniques, and help create strong programs (such as specific clubs or preparation courses).

Job Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Plan, organize, and implement appropriate programs and lesson plans to enhance skill development of participants
  • Work regularly with the Education Director and other relevant staff to assess the needs of individual students and adapt lessons to meet those needs
  • Observe and track member progress and attendance
  • Reinforce positive student behavior and clubhouse rules; maintain a positive relationship with all members, families and staff
  • Write, implement and adapt a curriculum and training methods that meets participants' interests
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Attend required department meetings and professional development trainings

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree preferred with a focus in Special Education and/or other highly relevant field
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Special Education Tutor or classroom teacher
  • Experience working with students from 7-18 years old
  • Comfort with students and subject content for high school level
  • Teacher certification or formal education experience strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of NYC school standards preferred
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to adapt to a changing environment and address the varying needs of the boys
