The Green Bay Area Public School District is accepting applicants for the Visually Impaired Teaching position for the 2026-2027 school year. License: Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction certification as Teacher of the Visually Impaired or the ability to obtain the license.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience: Instruction in functional vision evaluations and an understanding of the implications of the visual impairment on education and curricular needs of the child.
Qualifications Desired:
In addition to the District's essential functions for all teachers, the following essential functions are intended to expand on the primary job description for this position and further describe the requirements, essential functions, general nature and level of work requirements.
Provides specially designed academic instruction and strategies to meet goals and objectives contained in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Collaborates with parents and classroom teachers in order to monitor the impact of the visual impairment on student educational progress.
Conducts classroom observations to evaluate student needs in the areas of accessing the general curriculum, learning media (reading and writing modes), and the understanding of the expanded core curriculum for individuals with visual impairments.
Creates an environment that provides appropriate access to the general curriculum for students with visual impairments. Monitors for the provision of quality, comprehensive instruction to students in the Least Restrictive Environment.
Utilizes specialized materials, equipment and assistive technology for individuals with visual impairments and prepares for the integration of assistive and instructional technology to meet a student's individual needs.
Reviews and implements results of visual assessments.
Schedules meetings and collaborates with team members involved in the development of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
Provides ongoing professional learning opportunities and support to District staff that are a part of a student's educational team regarding the characteristics and impact of the visual impairment, along with demonstrating effective strategies to create a learning environment that is able to meet the needs of visually impaired students.
Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
