• Completed Safeguarding All God's Children class

• High School diploma and other pertinent educational experience

• Any instructional experience with children in the classroom setting

• Provide classroom and clerical aid to teachers.

• Assist the teacher by providing students with individual support in grades 1st-8th.

• Provide students with instructional reinforcement and de-escalation strategies.

• Monitor nonacademic settings upon request for activities like lunchroom supervision, morning arrival of students, and the chaperoning of field trips.

• CPR Certified

• Position requires the ability to stand, walk, bend over/crouch, and sit for extended periods; the ability to use hands, speak, and hear.

Special Education Teacher General Duties and Responsibilities

• Assisting and Modifying Instruction: Helping the lead teacher implement lesson plans and adapt materials for students'' individual needs. This might involve one-on-one support, small group instruction, or facilitating classroom activities.

• Behavioral Support: Assisting with behavior management, implementing strategies to help students stay focused, and ensuring a positive learning environment.

• Monitoring Progress: Observing and recording students'' progress, providing feedback to the teacher, and helping with assessments.

• Communication: Collaborating with teachers, therapists, and other staff members, as well as maintaining communication with parents or guardians regarding students'' progress.

• Classroom Management: Assisting in maintaining an organized, safe, and inclusive classroom environment.

• Supporting Inclusion: Encouraging and facilitating the inclusion of students with disabilities in general education settings when appropriate.

• This role requires patience, empathy, strong organizational skills, and the ability to adapt to the varying needs of students.

• Exhibits a thorough understanding of classroom materials and instructional methods.

• Displays computer skills as well as a familiarity with audio-visual equipment.

• Since assistants/teachers will be working with students from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures, the teacher must provide students with accurate and fair information and guidance.

• Assess the progress of students by observing their performance and recording relevant data.

• Attends to students who speak English as a second language.

• Meets accepted standards of professional behavior.

• Exhibits professionalism and commitment through punctuality and attendance.

• Observes all policies and procedures as established by the administration.

• Assists the teacher in the development of materials, projects, and activities to use with teacher-directed lessons.

• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.

• Works with the teacher to establish and maintain open and positive lines of communication with students, other staff, and parents concerning academics, language, and behavior.

• Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with other staff members.

• Assists the teacher/administrator in upholding and enforcing school rules and policies.

• Accepts other duties as assigned by Classroom Teacher(s) or Principal.

• Maintains confidentiality of school matters in and out of the school setting, between classrooms, and with students and parents.
