      Job Title: Special Mech (All Crafts)Pipe Fitter - Special Tooling Program

      Organization: Enabling Support & Services (51454302)

      Essential Job Duties

      • Performs a variety of assignments/functions within the Craft Shop assigned including, but not limited to, general maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, fabrication, and repair.

      PIPEFITTER:

      • Performs work with a minimum of supervision.
      • Operates a helium leak detector and documents required results.
      • Provides input to vacuum system designs, in collaboration with system owners.
      • Responsible for the safe operation and proper care of materials, tools and equipment.
      • Responsible for performing work in a safe manner.
      • Responsible for quality of work performed.
      • Responsible for other items as indicated in the Journeyman Job Description for the particular craft assigned.
      • Responsible for good housekeeping.
      • Responsible for maintaining a knowledge of applicable Federal, State, Department of Energy (DOE), Corporate and Plant rules, regulations, Labor Agreements and Plant-wide operating policies and procedures.
      • Performs other duties as assigned.
      • Required to attend and/or successfully complete training classes as determined by the Training and Development Technologies Department, through General Employee Training (Reference DOE Order 426.2), and Management.
      • Participates in worker involvement including input to work planning and methods to identify hazards and controls.
      • Understands a worker's right to stop work when they feel their own or other's personal safety is jeopardized.
      • Attends all required safety meetings and training. Offers suggestions on improvements to the work environment.

      Skills and Minimum Qualifications

      • Must be able to perform all duties and functions outlined above.
      • Must meet initial employment requirements.
      • Must be able to read, write, and comprehend applicable written and/or oral instructions.
      • Must be physically fit to perform the above job functions as determined by Medical Evaluation.
      • Must have been a journeyman mechanic or technician in the crafts for approximately three years.
      • Must have special training or knowledge, which makes him/her outstanding in the crafts during the specialist phase.
      • Must be able to develop new ideas and make parts and assemblies without drawings as required.
      • Must meet other requirements as indicated in the Journeyman Job Description for the particular craft to which assigned.
      • Must have a valid State Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
      • All qualifications, work history, training, and education are to be verified by direct contact with former employers and/or documented proof. Ability to perform the functions and responsibilities involved will be determined by a comprehensive interview and background evaluation.

      Education

      High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED)

      DOE Order 426.2A Requirements

      In addition to the above requirements, the applicant must also meet the requirements of DOE O 426.2A (i.e., High School diploma, or a DOE O 426.2A alternative). DOE O 426.2A experience requirements can be satisfied following employment. In the interim, newly hired personnel will not be assigned duties that could impact the safety basis of nuclear facilities. (Ref. DOE O 426.2A)

      Functional Requirements

      • Lifting or carrying {less than 51 pounds (or specify # of pounds 40)
      • Straight pulling or pushing (_2_hours/day)
      • Reaching above shoulder level
      • Repetitive motion of the wrist/forearm
      • Walking (_2_hours/day)
      • Standing (_2_hours/day)
      • Repeated bending at the waist
      • Repeated squatting
      • Climbing with legs only (stairs)
      • Climbing with arms and legs (ladders, etc.)
      • Operation of motorized vehicle:
      • Normal far vision in at least one eye correctable to 20/40 (20 feet)
      • Near vision (must be able to read computer screen, manuscript, book etc, at approximately 13-16 inches from face)
      • Depth perception (ability to tell how close or far an object is)
      • Ability to distinguish basic colors (red, green, etc.)
      • No evidence of current drug or alcohol abuse
      • Ability to use small tools
      • Ability to perform safety-sensitive duties

      • Constant noise (ex: running engines)
      • Impact noise (ex. Air hammers (EXCEPT - Instrument)
      • Excessive heat
      • Excessive cold/chilling
      • Environmental dust (silica)
      • Asbestos (Pipefitter and Boilermaker - only)

      • Grease and oils
      • Motor fuels (Garage - only)
      • Solvents and degreasing agents
      • Radiation exposure (plutonium, tritium, uranium)
      • Strong acids and bases (Machinist, Pipefitter, Electrician-only)
      • Works out of doors
      • Ladders or scaffolding
      • Around moving vehicles
      • Confined spaces
      • Prolonged or irregular hours
      • Shift work - specify - Swing / Graves
      • Machinery with exposed moving parts
      • Vibrations
      • Isolated work assignments

      Notes

      Requires a Q clearance; however all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy Q clearance is required.

      Requires Human Reliability Program (HRP) certification. If the successful candidate is not currently certified in the HRP, the certification process will be initiated upon assumption of the position. If the successful candidate is currently certified in the HRP, a review for HRP certification in the appropriate category will be performed by the hiring manager and the HRP Management Official, and the certification process in the appropriate category will be initiated upon assumption of the position
