Coordinator of the Special Needs Religious Education Ministry (Program) at Christ, Our Light! Parish in Troy, MI
-10 months per year position
-18 hours per week
 
Job Description:
  • Work collaboratively with the pastor and parish staff.
  • Plan and organize Sacramental Preparation for students who have special needs. (disabilities)
  • Organize and lead retreats, prayer services, and liturgical celebrations (Masses, Reconciliation, Stations of the Cross, etc.).
  • Plan and teach gospel lessons as well as a Prayer Service once a week.
  • Maintain accurate records related to sacramental preparation and religious education.
  • Manage the religious education budget and resource materials.
  • Recruiting, training, and supervising volunteer catechists and other staff members to assist with the implementation of religious education programs.
  • Engage parents in the religious formation of their children through meetings, workshops, and resources.
  • The classes serve as an enrichment program to strengthen and deepen the Catholic Faith in a way that is accepting, nonjudgmental and nurturing.
  • Coordinate preparation for sacraments (First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation) in collaboration with the parish and families.
  • Classes meet on Saturdays from 10:00 - 11:30.
  • The ministry is comprised of students of all ages.
  • Currently there are 25 students and 25 volunteers.
  • The students work individually or in small groups with  volunteers and family members.
 
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong knowledge of Catholic doctrine and tradition.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with clergy, educators, parents, and students.
  • Passion for faith formation and Catholic education for those with disabilities. 
  • Proficient with technology and social media.

Working Conditions:
  • Must be available for weekends for program and events, liturgies, or retreats.
  • Must pass background checks and meet diocesan Safe Environment requirements.
  • Must be available for occasional evenings.
