Our School 

Houston Classical Charter School (“Houston Classical”) was chartered by the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to open in Houston in August 2020, beginning with kindergarten and first grade. The school has an accomplished and committed Board, which includes a founding Board and a Head of School. We are looking for experienced, dedicated, and motivated individuals who are excited by the challenge of being part of a new school. The Role

Houston Classical is seeking a dedicated Special Populations Paraprofessional to support our mission to provide all scholars, including those with diverse abilities and emergent bilingual learners, with a rigorous, high-quality education. In this role, you will work closely with Special Education teachers, Emergent Bilingual staff, and general education teachers to provide targeted academic, language, and behavioral support to scholars with diverse learning needs. You'll play an integral part in creating a learning environment where all scholars feel seen, supported, and set up for success.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities

• Support Special Education teachers in delivering individualized instruction aligned with scholars' IEP goals.
• Support emergent bilingual scholars during classroom instruction to reinforce language development and academic comprehension.
• Provide one-on-one or small group academic support, both inside and outside the general education classroom, for scholars with disabilities and/or emergent bilingual scholars as needed.
• Implement behavior intervention plans under the guidance of Special Education staff.
• Help facilitate accommodations and modifications in the classroom to ensure full access to the classical curriculum for both populations.
• Assist in collecting and tracking scholar progress data, ensuring documentation is accurate and up-to-date.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to support inclusive practices and maintain a positive, well-managed learning environment.
• Communicate regularly and professionally with families, helping keep them informed about scholar progress and needs, including translation support as needed.
• Assist with clerical duties such as organizing scholar materials, copying instructional resources, and preparing modified assignments.
• Supervise and support scholars during transitions, breakfast, lunch, recess, and dismissal.
• Provide coverage for Special Education teachers when needed to ensure continuity of services.
• Report to and receive guidance from the Director of Special Populations on cross-functional support priorities.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Prior experience working with SPED or Emergent Bilingual scholars strongly preferred.
• Bilingual skills (Spanish-English or other languages) are highly preferred.
• Knowledge of IDEA, TEA EL guidelines, and language acquisition best practices.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage diverse learners and families.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism.
