Special Procedures Technologist / Vascular Interventional Radiology Technologist

Position Summary

Under the supervision of certified Radiologists, the Special Procedures Technologist performs advanced imaging and interventional procedures for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The technologist assists physicians during procedures, ensures patient safety, maintains imaging quality standards, and supports the education of student technologists.

This role requires strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced procedural environment.


Experience Requirements

Required

  • Minimum 2 years of Radiologic Technologist experience OR
  • Minimum 1 year of Special Procedures/Interventional Radiology/Vascular Interventional Radiology experience

Preferred

  • Prior dedicated Vascular Interventional Radiology experience

Education Requirements

Required

  • Graduate of an accredited School of Allied Health Professionals

Required Certifications & Licensure

Required

  • South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association (SCRQSA) Radiographer Certification
  • ARRT Radiography (R) Certification
  • BLS (American Heart Association)

Preferred

  • Completion of an ARRT-Accredited Vascular Interventional Radiology Program
  • ARRT Vascular Interventional (VI) Certification

Patient Care Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, age-appropriate patient care during imaging and interventional procedures
  • Verify and obtain correct physician orders prior to procedures
  • Prepare and educate patients regarding procedures
  • Assist with obtaining informed consent as needed
  • Monitor patient condition throughout procedures
  • Provide post-procedure instructions to patients and families
  • Ensure patient comfort, privacy, and safety at all times

Procedural Responsibilities

  • Perform Special Procedures and Interventional Radiology exams under Radiologist supervision
  • Assist Radiologists during vascular and interventional procedures
  • Produce high-quality diagnostic images
  • Minimize repeat examinations through proper positioning and technique
  • Ensure proper documentation and procedural accuracy
  • Maintain procedural workflow efficiency
