Position Overview

The City of Henderson announces an examination to create a consideration for hire list and to fill one (1) vacancy for the classification of Special Programs and Services Officer (Part-Time) in the Police Department. The eligibility list may be utilized to fill vacancies for this classification for up to one (1) year.

Under general supervision of sworn law enforcement administrator, serves as a sworn law enforcement officer of Special Programs and Services with responsibility for facilitating all enforcement actions with probationers, making probable cause arrests, and performing related duties as assigned.

VACANCY INFORMATION:

The person in this position will supervise probationers and pre-trial releasees, promoting accountability and rehabilitation while supporting community safety. Responsibilities include conducting interviews, investigations, managing pre-trial and probation cases, administering DART (Drug and Alcohol Random Testing), and maintaining detailed case files.

  • This is a part-time, non-PERS eligible position.
  • This position does not qualify for employer-paid benefits, paid time off, wage increases, or union representation
  • This position requires enrollment in the Citys Alternate Retirement Systems (ARS)
  • Work schedule will consist of an average of 19 hours/week. Hours per week may increase or decrease based on Department need
  • May be required to work a flexible work schedule, outside of normal business hours, which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or extended hours
  • External candidates, probationary full-time, part-time, and temporary City of Henderson employees will start at the first step of the salary range.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from high school, or the equivalent
  • One (1) year of continuous law enforcement experience as a commissioned law enforcement officer such as a probation/parole officer, police officer, deputy sheriff, or state trooper
  • Possess and maintain a valid Nevada or "border state" driver's license, as defined by NRS 483
  • Must pass a nationwide fingerprint-based record check, and a wants/warrants check
  • Must complete Security Awareness and National Crime Information Center (NCIC)/Nevada Criminal Justice Information System (NCJIS) certification within six months of hire/transfer and be recertified every year. Must maintain certifications in NCIC/NCJIS as a condition of continued employment
  • Must possess and maintain Overdose Education and Naloxone Distribution (OEND) certification, First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) within sixty (60) days of hire
  • Must possess a current Nevada Peace Officer Standard Training (P.O.S.T.) Category I or II certificate at the time of appointment
  • According to NAC 289.110: A person may not be appointed to perform the duties of a peace officer if he has: Been convicted of a felony in this state or of any offense which would be a felony if committed in this state; Been convicted of an offense involving moral turpitude or the unlawful use, sale, or possession of a controlled substance; or a documented history of physical violence
