    Recruitment Notes

The South Dade Wetlands (SDW) Preserve Manager is a professional technical position within the Environmentally Endangered Lands (EEL) Program. This role is responsible for the administrative management and coordination of over 54,000 acres, and for the direct supervision, restoration, enhancement, and maintenance of over 22,000 acres of public conservation land, representing the EEL Program's largest acquisition and management project. Consistent with the Board's mandate to protect the public health, safety, and welfare through ensuring the purity of County waters and the protection of wildlife, aquatic life, and the biological integrity of freshwater wetlands. This position would lead a team of professional and technical staff dedicated to the ecological health and operational success of the preserve. The role focuses on developing and supervising complex restoration and enhancement projects, with a specific emphasis on directing the technical field activities of EEL restoration crews to ensure compliance with contract and permit conditions. This requires close coordination with multidisciplinary teams, state and federal partners, and the South Florida Water Management District to maintain adequate water levels, aquifer recharge, water conservation, and the prevention of saltwater intrusion. The manager also represents the EEL Program's interests in the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan (CERP) by supporting the development, planning, and implementation of regional restoration efforts.

The manager oversees invasive species (both plants and animals) assessments and implements resource monitoring programs to interpret data regarding the health of the SDW and its role in the greater Everglades ecosystem. A critical component of this EEL Program position involves field-level operations, including prescribed fire management and wildfire coordination response, as well as regular coordination with adjacent private property owners to address land management concerns and resolve public complaints. Additionally, the incumbent manages programmatic aspects of projects identified by the EEL Land Acquisition Selection Committee, provides scientific guidance for environmental and development reviews to ensure the protection of EEL resources, composes grant applications to fund scientific investigations, and ensures all activities align with the mandates of Chapter 24-50 of the Code of Miami-Dade County. This position involves supervising EEL restoration crews, acting as a lead for technical field activities, and requires the operation of a County vehicle for site inspections and emergency response coordination.
