Description

If so, apply to the Public Utilities Departments Specialist - Pump Operation/Maintenance position!

The Specialist - Pump Operation/Maintenance position in Public Utilities is a full-time position with benefits, and this advertisement has been written for a Specialist III level. Applicants who do not meet the minimum qualifications for the Specialist III level may be considered for other levels within the department at an annual rate commensurate with applicant qualifications. An exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidates qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy.

Preferred Hiring Ranges:

  • Specialist I: $22.35 - $24.58 per hour (equivalent to $46,488 - $51,126 annually)
  • Specialist II: $24.41 - $26.85 per hour (equivalent to $50,772 - $55,848 annually)
  • Specialist III: $26.67 - $29.34 per hour (equivalent to $55,473 - $61,027 annually)

As a Specialist in Pump Operation/Maintenance, youll:

  • Perform analysis and resolve daily operational, technical, or administrative problems as they pertain to inspection and maintenance of facilities of pumping, storage, and monitoring utility functions;
  • Inspect water and sewer pumping stations, SCADA and other monitoring equipment (meters, gauges, etc.), hydraulic control valves for water systems, and water storage facilities, tanks, and reservoirs;
  • Provide routine preventive and predictive maintenance to pumps, valves, blowers, filters, screens, motors, generators, and other equipment, buildings, and grounds;
  • Make repairs and replace malfunctioning mechanical components, such as bearings, impellors, gauges, seals, packing, and more;
  • Make repairs and replace malfunctioning electronic SCADA components and other similar devices;
  • Perform advanced/complex electrical component troubleshooting and repairs through the use of a certified electrician or through the assistance of available technical support;
  • Make repairs and maintain associated buildings and grounds;
  • Oversee ordering of parts for repairs;
  • Prepare and maintain maintenance records;
  • Serve as a lead worker in the field as needed;
  • Work standby and/or on-call during off-hours for water system alarm diagnosis and repair as required;
  • Operate a City vehicle in the performance of job duties.
  • Performs related tasks.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements for the Specialist III Level:

  • Associate/Technical Degree or coursework in mechatronics, industrial technology, industrial maintenance, electrical or related field toward trade apprenticeship, and extensive (6+ years) experience in the repair and maintenance of pumping station equipment. Trade certifications preferred but not required for consideration. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.
  • Valid drivers license. Commercial Drivers License (CDL) required within 6 months of hire date.
  • Current possession of or the ability to obtain VDOT Basic Work Zone Certification within 6 months of hire date.
  • Available and willing to work stand-by and on-call during off-hours for water system alarm diagnosis and repair as needed.
