Description

We are seeking a licensed pharmacist to serve as the clinical subject matter expert on specialty medications. The Specialty Clinical Pharmacist will work with cross-functional teams to analyze pharmacy cost of care, evaluate prescribing trends, and recommend appropriate-use guidelines. This role requires a strong clinical knowledge base that is kept current through continuing education, professional affiliations, and active engagement with the evolving specialty drug landscape.

Job Responsibilities

•       Monitor and stay ahead of emerging specialty drug trends, pipeline developments, biosimilar launches, and legislative or regulatory changes; translate insights into actionable strategy and clear guidance for internal stakeholders.

•       Partner with sales enablement teams to support direct client conversations, proposals, and presentations, clearly articulating the value and differentiation of the specialty clinical model.

•       Serve as the clinical subject matter expert on the organization's specialty drug management strategies, helping to expand and maintain a state-of-the-art clinical database.

•       Provide clinical expertise on complex medication cases, high-cost claims, and clinical prior authorization reviews.

•       Evaluate and develop treatment protocols for rare and complex disease states as needed, incorporating current clinical evidence and best-practice guidelines.

•       Act as a cross-functional clinical resource for data analytics, software development, marketing, and sales teams, ensuring clinical accuracy across products, tools, and client-facing materials.

•       Educate and support internal teams — including product, sales, and operations — on specialty pharmacy nuances, new clinical developments, and the broader competitive landscape.

•       Engage directly with prescribers and providers to advocate for clinically appropriate, cost-saving medication alternatives on behalf of clients, leveraging professional resources and clinical expertise to support recommendations.

•       Analyze pharmacy cost-of-care data and prescribing trends to identify utilization patterns, gaps in care, and opportunities for cost containment.

•       Develop, refine, and maintain clinical criteria, coverage policies, and utilization management guidelines for specialty medications.

•       Represent the organization at industry conferences, webinars, and professional forums to stay current on specialty pharmacy trends and best practices.

•       Support ad hoc clinical research projects, literature reviews, and market analyses to inform broader organizational strategy.
