Job Description: Specimen Technician I (3rd Shift)
Job Title: Specimen Technician I
Location: Miramar, FL
Duration: 3+ Months (Possibility of Extension)
Shift: Monday–Friday, 9:00 PM – 5:30 AM
Position Summary
The Specimen Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department in a fast-paced, production-oriented environment. This role requires strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and the ability to handle biological specimens safely and accurately.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate excellent organizational abilities, adaptability, and a commitment to quality and compliance standards that directly impact customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform specimen processing tasks including:
- Pre-sort and A-station functions
- Specimen pickup and delivery within the laboratory
- Imaging and microfilming
- Centrifugation and aliquoting of specimens
- Accurately enter data at a speed of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
- Ensure timely and accurate processing of laboratory specimens
- Maintain compliance with changing test order regulations and laboratory procedures
- Handle specimens in a biohazard environment while adhering to strict safety standards
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments
- Support departmental productivity and quality benchmarks
- Demonstrate flexibility to adjust to workload changes and shifting priorities
Work Environment & Requirements
- Production-based environment with strict turnaround times
- Exposure to biohazard materials; adherence to safety protocols is mandatory
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Must be available for:
- Night shifts (primary)
- Weekends and holidays (as needed)
- Overtime and on-call assignments
Qualifications
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
Required Skills & Knowledge
- Basic computer proficiency
- Strong data entry skills
- Ability to learn and understand specimen types and laboratory processes
- Strong organizational and time-management skills
- Adaptability in a changing work environment
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Healthcare or clinical laboratory background
- Experience in a production-driven environment
- Previous hospital laboratory exposure (a plus)
