Job Title: Specimen Technician - 3rd Shift
Job Location: Pittsburgh, PA 15220
Job Duration: 4 Months of contract
Shift: Monday- Friday 10pm-6:30am EST
Position Summary:
The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) provides general support within the Specimen Processing Department. This role involves a variety of tasks related to handling and processing laboratory specimens, requiring strong attention to detail, accuracy, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform functions such as A-station processing, presorting, specimen pickup and delivery, imaging/microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting
- Accurately enter data, maintaining a minimum of 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour
- Ensure all tasks are completed with a high level of accuracy, efficiency, and timeliness
- Learn and understand specimen types and corresponding tests ordered by clients
- Stay updated on compliance regulations related to test ordering, which may change frequently
- Maintain a clean and organized work area
- Follow all safety protocols, especially when working in a biohazard environment
- Communicate effectively with team members and other departments
- Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to changing workloads and customer demands
- Support overall departmental productivity, quality standards, and turnaround times
Work Environment & Schedule:
- Production-based environment with emphasis on productivity and quality
- Exposure to biohazard materials; adherence to safety practices is required
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods
- Primarily night shift (3rd shift: 10:00 PM – 6:30 AM EST), with variable scheduling
- Availability for weekends, holidays, on-call shifts, and overtime as needed
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Required Knowledge & Skills:
- Basic computer proficiency and data entry skills
- Strong organizational and multitasking abilities
- Good communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to adapt quickly to changes in procedures and workload
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior laboratory or specimen processing experience
- Familiarity with medical terminology
- Experience in a hospital or production environment
