Job Title: Specimen Technician
Job Location: Chantilly, VA
Job Duration: 3+ Months
Shift: Sun – Thurs, 04:00 AM – 12:30 PM EST.
 
Pay Rate: $25.19/hr. on W2 – All inclusive.
 
Overview:
  • The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) plays a key role in supporting the Specimen Processing Department by ensuring the accurate and timely handling of laboratory specimens.
  • This role involves various essential tasks such as specimen sorting, data entry, centrifugation, aliquoting, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
  • The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, production-based environment.
  • Accuracy, flexibility, and adherence to safety and compliance standards are critical to success in this position.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform specimen processing duties including A-station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, and delivery of processed specimens.
  • Enter patient and test information accurately and efficiently (6,000+ keystrokes/hour).
  • Ensure proper specimen labeling and handling according to established procedures.
  • Maintain quality and productivity standards while meeting departmental completion times.
  • Communicate effectively with laboratory staff, couriers, and other departments.
  • Maintain a clean and organized workspace while adhering to all safety and compliance policies.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to workflow changes, shifting priorities, and customer demands.
  • Handle biohazard materials safely while practicing good laboratory safety habits.
 
Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
 
Experience:
  • No prior laboratory experience required; training provided.
  • Prior experience in a clinical, production, or data entry environment preferred.
  • Familiarity with medical terminology or laboratory processes is a plus.
 
Skills:
  • Strong data entry accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Good organizational, communication, and multitasking skills.
  • Comfortable working in a biohazard environment and standing or sitting for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
