Speech-Language Pathology Assistant - Extended School Year Program
Effective Date: July 6, 2026 - July 30, 2026 (Monday - Thursday)
Hours: To be determined based upon student need
Salary: $24.00 - $35.00 per hour (based upon experience)
Note: Appointment to positions in the Extended School Year Program shall be made first to qualified employees of the East Hartford Public Schools. Applicants must meet all state requirements for employment as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant.
East Hartford Board of Education Employees: Submit Letter of Interest Only to Human Resources.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Associate's or bachelor's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant studies, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or related field, or other preparation meeting recognized Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) educational requirements.
Demonstrated knowledge of speech, language, communication, and related disorders.
Ability to provide services under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.
Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
Ability to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
Other qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board of Education.
REPORTS TO : Building Administration and Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist
JOB GOAL : To support the delivery of speech-language services to students under the direction and supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) in accordance with Connecticut regulations, district procedures, and professional standards. The SLPA assists in implementing treatment plans and collecting data to help students access and benefit from their educational program.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES :
Implements speech-language intervention activities and treatment plans developed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
Provides direct speech-language therapy services to students as assigned by and under the supervision of the Speech-Language Pathologist.
Assists in preparing therapy materials, activities, and instructional supports.
Collects, records, and maintains accurate data regarding student performance and progress toward IEP goals.
Assists with documenting student attendance, service delivery logs, and other required records.
Supports the implementation and use of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) systems as directed by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
Collaborates with educational staff to reinforce communication strategies across school settings.
Assists in maintaining therapy equipment, materials, and communication devices.
Participates in team meetings and professional activities as requested by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist.
Maintains confidentiality of student records and information in accordance with federal and state regulations.
Performs duties only within the scope of practice of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant and under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist.
Performs other duties as assigned by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist or administration.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT : Extended School Year Program. Salary and work schedule to be established by the Board of Education.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with Board policies and procedures governing support personnel and ESY staff.
