Job Summary
Under the direction of the building principal or Director of Pupil Services, the licensed Speech/Language Pathologist is required to identify goals that address educational needs specific to an individual with a disability in the area(s) of Speech and/or Language; design and implement instruction formulated specially for that individual and those goals; monitor and evaluate the individual's progress toward the goals; and adjust instruction when the individual''s progress is unsatisfactory.
Essential Functions:
Comply with all procedural requirements of state and federal law in regard to the special education or program process
Create a positive environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students which integrates the special program with the educational program
Work with populations that have speech/language needs, including but not exclusive to: acoustically, mentally, and neurologically handicapped students.
Select appropriate diagnostic instruments, accurately interpret diagnostic results and be alert to the need for further diagnostic procedures, including accuracy in report writing and record keeping, and follow specific criteria of dismissal of students.
Employ research-based instruction techniques, methods, materials and principles of learning to guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and, in harmony with the goals, establish clear goals and objectives through IEPs for all basic skills and to communicate these objectives to students and parents
Assess the accomplishments of students and provide progress reports as required, including IEP reviews on at least a yearly basis as required by law.
Assess receptive/expressive language in the areas of semantics, syntax, morphology, phonology/articulation, pragmatics, and voice and fluency disabilities.
Be involved in IEP team procedures interpreting and communicating evaluation results with teachers, parents, administrators and other staff members
Assist the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct.
Perform other related duties as delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program.
Attend staff meetings and serve on staff committees, as required.
Qualifications
Master's Degree in Speech/Language Pathology from an accredited institution
Valid Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction certification as required for the position
Knowledge of procedural requirements required by Federal and State law
Experience working with youth in an educational setting
Knowledge of relevant technology to assist in individualized instruction

The individual in this position must be able to:

Maintain concentration and focus on tasks requiring timeliness and detail
Communicate effectively on the telephone and in person to provide accurate information and assistance
Interact with students who have difficulty controlling physical behavior
Commute to all BASD buildings for support
Complete job duties in an environment where background noise and frequent interruptions are the norm
