Syble Hopp School is seeking a dynamic and skilled Speech-Language Pathologist to join our team. Syble Hopp School is a unique and highly respected educational setting serving students ages 3-21 with significant disabilities, including significant intellectual disabilities and autism. As a collaborative extension of the seven Brown County school districts, West De Pere, De Pere, Wrightstown, Pulaski, Ashwaubenon, Howard-Suamico, and Denmark, we offer specialized services in a setting intentionally designed to support student success.

Position Title: Speech and Language Pathologist

Essential Functions: This job description reflects management's assignment of essential functions; it does not prescribe or restrict the tasks that may be assigned.

  1. To incorporate the philosophy and support instructional practices of the 5 component based Essential Elements Curriculum (Functional Academics, Vocational Training, Independent Living, Community Living, Recreation and Leisure Activities)..

  2. To have a complete understanding of and an ability to implement best practices of working with children who have intellectual disabilities and/or Autism and/or physical disabilities. Best practices include but are not limited to substantial knowledge of the child with ID, using positive effective redirecting activities, making responsible decisions, demonstrating flexibility, etc.

  3. Follow documented treatment plans and provide direct services as predetermined by the Speech-Language Pathologist.

  4. Document student progress toward meeting outlined objectives as stated in the treatment plan.

  5. Collect data and other related duties, as directed by the Speech-Language Pathologist. This may include delivering services within the classroom, in a treatment room or in the community.

  6. Compiles data to document student's performance.

  7. Perform simple checks and maintenance of equipment.

  8. Prepare speech and language instructional materials.

  9. Participate in training and appropriate professional development as deemed necessary by the SpeechLanguage Pathologist.

  10. To respond in an appropriate and timely manner to medical and other emergencies of both children assigned as well as children assigned to other staff.

  11. To use the approach of positive redirection when dealing with all children.

  12. To communicate effectively and positively with students, parents, staff, administration and community members/agencies.

  13. Implement the requirements of being a mandated reporter.

  14. To use effective and positive behavior management skills that address the safety of all children, the development and enforcement of class and school rules and the assurance of fair treatment for all children.

  15. Perform related duties as assigned by the supervising Speech-Language Pathologist(s).

Physical Attributes: This position regularly requires the use of hands and fingers to handle objects and reach with hands and arms. The individual must be able to effectively communicate, including talking and hearing. Mobility requirements include frequently standing and walking, as well as occasionally sitting, climbing, or balancing. The role may involve occasionally lifting or moving up to 50 pounds. The individual is directly responsible for the safety, well-being, or output of others. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the position demands the ability to manage multiple requests from several individuals while interacting with the public and staff.

Physical Requirements: Must complete a physical examination as required by Wisconsin Statute 118.25

Environment: The work environment occasionally involves exposure to outside weather conditions, with a noise level that is usually moderate to loud. The position requires a valid driver's license and flexibility with the work schedule. The primary workspace is the school setting; therapies are provided in the classroom or therapy space.
