JOB GOAL:
The Speech and Language Therapist assesses, diagnoses, and treats students who have language disorders, language-based learning disabilities, and speech disabilities based on the capacity and disability of the student. The Speech and Language Therapist consults with the team members regarding the students diagnosis, treatment, and progress.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plans, implements, and teaches both individual and group speech and language therapy.
- Implements Individualized Educational programs (IEPs) for individuals who have language disorders, language-based learning disabilities, and speech disabilities based on the capacity and disability of the student.
- Evaluates students with language or speech disabilities using appropriate tests, records, observation, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Evaluates and refers when appropriate, students suspected of having handicaps in any of the areas designated in the Federal census code.
- Maintains and updates records on each student and provides written reports on the students communication disability and progress.
- Provides counseling and guidance to parent, children, teachers, and treatment team members regarding speech and language disorders.
- Participates in school Admissions, Review and Dismissal Committee meetings and develops communication, speech and language components of Individual Education Programs (IEPs).
- Consults with classroom staff in the development of speech improvement programs in the classroom.
- Assists in program and staff development activities.
- Serves committees as needed.
- Participates in appropriate staff development activities.
- Strives to implement by instruction and action the districts philosophy of special education and instructional goals and objectives of the individual students individual Educational Plan (IEP).
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
As found in the Agreement Between the Kent County Educational Support Personnel Association and The Board of Education of Kent County. Ten (10) month position.
SALARY LANE:
Teachers Lane. Step established by the Superintendent.
BARGAINING UNIT:
Kent County Educational Support Personnel Association.
FLSA STATUS:
Exempt.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this position will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel.
