Position Summary
The Speech Language Pathologist evaluates diagnoses and treats speech language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders in patients of all ages with varying acuity levels.
Responsibilities
• Evaluates patients gathering data from the patient, physician, interdisciplinary team meetings if available, family, and significant other persons, and data sources. • Develops treatment plans which integrate with the continuum of care and have specific goals and objectives. • Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the assigned caseload. • Demonstrates the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patients requirements relative to their age-specific needs and to provide the care needed as delineated in the departmental policies and procedures. • Demonstrates competency in the use, care, and maintenance of profession-specific equipment, observing safety precautions, and providing verbal explanations of the equipment and its purpose. • Re-evaluates and modifies treatment plan and goals when appropriate and prepares written documentation as required by the department and the care team. • Recognizes and communicates when the patient has received optimal benefit from speech therapy. • Ensures accurate billing. • Adheres to State Practice Act and Standards of Practice. • Maintains reasonably regular punctual attendance consistent with Orlando Health policies, the ADA FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards. • Maintains compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
• Participates in Performance Improvement program development, student supervision, assigned committees, safety, and infection control as required. • Demonstrates an awareness of legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory and accrediting agencies. • Attends rehabilitation meetings, in-services, and any patient care meetings that are required for the assignment. • Practices efficient use and selection of supplies and equipment. Instructs support personnel in their duties as necessary.
Qualifications
Education and Training Masters degree in speech-language pathology from an approved program. Clinical Fellowship Year CFY may apply.
Licensure and Certification • Certificate of Clinical Competence or active engagement in the Clinical Fellowship Year requirements. • Maintains current Speech Language Pathologist license in the State of Florida - provisional license is acceptable. • Maintains current BLS/HealthCare Provider Certification.
