**Job Description** **UW Medical Center - Montlake - Rehab Therapies** has an outstanding opportunity for a **SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST 1 - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit/NICU (PER DIEM)** **WORK SCHEDULE** + PER DIEM + Minimum commitment of 4 shifts per month + Additional scheduling opportunities are regularly available, with an average of **2-3 shifts per week** beyond the minimum requirement. **DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION** UW Medicine Rehabilitation - Our multidisciplinary team is centered around compassion and innovation. Become part of our team and join our mission to make life healthier for everyone in our community! **PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES** Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU): - This role will serve as a Neonatal Feeding Therapist to provide direct patient care and/or consultative services for the premature and/or medically complex infants in a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as referred by a licensed provider. - Responsible for providing feeding/swallowing assessments for all infants <35 weeks gestation at birth. - Assist to develop clinical programs and individualized feeding plans to facilitate safe, cue based oral feeding for each infant; implementing developmentally appropriate feeding/swallowing intervention services to minimize feeding challenges as warranted; actively collaborating with neonatology team regarding therapy needs in the NICU, oral feeding practices, premature infant development, and provision of developmental care. - Confer with and coach families and caregivers regarding individualized feeding techniques to minimize impact of feeding challenges in their NICU infant. - Participate in operational aspects, performance improvement, and quality improvement activities within the department. - Provide input in formulating budget, assist in evaluation of departmental performance, and take action to remain in budget guidelines. - Ensure that patient charges and documentation are accurate and entered on a timely basis. - Participate in infection control, equipment training, compliance, safety and educational programs, both at the departmental and organizational level. **REQUIREMENTS** Licensed by the State of Washington as a Speech Language Pathologist. A Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Equivalent education/experience.
