Who We Are

The department of Speech-Language Pathology at Michigan Medicine - University of Michigan Health is excited to announce an opening for a speech-language pathologist with experience in evaluation and treatment of dysphagia, voice, and breathing disorders to join our team! The ideal candidate will have interest in both adult and pediatric voice disorders, functional breathing disorders, and have an interest in further program development. This position offers the opportunity to work as part of a dynamic multidisciplinary team with speech-language pathology and laryngology. Our Speech-Language Pathology department has a well-established team of nationally recognized clinicians.

Responsibilities*

• Diagnose speech, language and cognitive-communicative disorders.
• Evaluate voice disorders.
• Evaluate oral-pharyngeal swallowing disorders, using clinical as well as instrumental evaluation

tools.

• Design and implement treatment programs to facilitate improved communication and swallowing

skills. Maintain standards of clinical productivity.

• Counsel patients and their families concerning social, behavioral, and psychological problems

associated with communication and swallowing disorders.

• Provide documentation of evaluation data, test/re-test data and speech-language progress, in

accordance with insurance and regulatory agency requirements.

• Provide patients and families with recommendations and referrals to appropriate health care

sources.

• Participate in patient evaluation conferences with emphasis on discharge planning and referrals

pertinent to continued rehabilitation and/or stabilization of clinical gains.

• Provide assistance to medical and rehabilitation team members about the most feasible

communication pathways to help the patient achieve maximum understanding of medical

information and rehabilitation techniques.

• Participate in research and the preparation of papers for publication or presentations related to

communication and swallowing disorders.

• Participate in staff meetings regarding individual patients with physicians, nurses, insurance

representatives and allied health professionals.

• Process patient care orders using the electronic ordering system may be required in certain

areas.

• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications*

• Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
• ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence or eligibility to initiate a Clinical Fellowship
• Current licensure as a Speech-Language Pathologist in the State of Michigan

Desired Qualifications*

• Aptitude in instrumental evaluations including VFSS, FEES and videostroboscopic examination of the larynx.

• Clinical experience in more complex head and neck cancer management and complex dysphagia in an academic teaching hospital

• Clinical experience in functional breathing disorders

• Experience working effectively with medical and allied health professionals within an interdisciplinary team

• Experience in documentation of clinical findings, adhering to regulatory agency and insurance requirements.

• Competency in evaluation and management of adults with speech, voice, upper airway, and swallowing disorders.

• Experience within a voice and swallowing clinic is preferred with specific skills including:

• Evaluation and management of adults with head and neck cancer, TEP management, voice disorders, upper airway disorders and complex dysphagia in an academic university hospital acute care & acute inpatient rehab setting.

• Aptitude in instrumental evaluations including FEES and VFSS, and video stroboscopic examination of the larynx is preferred.

• Documentation of clinical findings, adhering to regulatory agency and insurance requirements.

• Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as part of an interactive multidisciplinary team.

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

M-F: 40 hours per week. Schedule times may vary.

Work Locations

This full time SLP position will be split across multiple ambulatory care sites. Clinics in Ann Arbor within University Hospital and offsite at West Ann Arbor.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening
