Position Overview
James L. West Alzheimer’s Center is seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our team on a part-time or per diem basis.
This is an excellent opportunity for an SLP who is passionate about providing person-centered care and helping individuals maintain their communication, swallowing, and functional abilities while supporting their dignity and quality of life.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate residents to identify speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing needs.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans based on each resident’s clinical needs and goals.
- Provide therapeutic interventions designed to improve communication, cognition, swallowing, and functional independence.
- Monitor resident progress and modify treatment plans as appropriate.
- Complete accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with facility and regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with nursing, therapy, dietary, medical staff, families, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Educate residents, families, caregivers, and staff regarding communication strategies, swallowing precautions, and appropriate therapeutic techniques.
- Promote resident safety, dignity, independence, and quality of life.
- Provide compassionate, patient-centered care in a supportive environment.
Qualifications
- Current and valid Speech-Language Pathologist license in the state of Texas.
- Graduate of an accredited Speech-Language Pathology program.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) through ASHA, as applicable.
- Strong clinical, communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience with skilled nursing, long-term care, rehabilitation, geriatrics, or dementia care is preferred.
- Experience working with individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia is a plus.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with an interdisciplinary team.
