    Monday-Friday Schedule with 3 weekend requirements a quarter.

    Position for Brain Injury team but can cover a caseload on SCI team as well.

    Pay Range:

    $35.50 - $53.25

    Carolinas Rehabilitation's Brain Injury Team provides comprehensive inpatient rehabilitation services for adults recovering from traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other acquired neurological conditions. As part of an interdisciplinary team that includes physicians, speech-language pathologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, neuropsychologists, nursing, and case management, clinicians deliver evidence-based care focused on improving communication, cognition, swallowing, functional independence, and quality of life. This highly collaborative environment offers opportunities to work with complex neurological populations across the continuum of recovery.

    This position is not eligible for a clinical fellowship.

    Job Description:

    Provides a full range of differential diagnostic and therapeutic services to patients referred by a physician. Performs specialized tests and treatments as well as teaching procedures to the patient, family and other health personnel.

    EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited program. Minimum one year post Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) clinical experience, two years preferred.

    LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION, and/or REGISTRATION: Current license in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the applicable state Board of Examiners for Speech and Language Pathologists and Audiologists. Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology issued by the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association. Candidate must have SLP-CCC.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    1. Performs comprehensive professional evaluation of patients of all ages referred for differential diagnosis of communicative or swallowing disorders. Selects and administers evaluation instruments that are appropriate for the patient's age, developmental level, cognitive function, and reason for referral.

    2. Ensures patient and/or family education regarding communication or swallowing deficits and treatment options. Provides counseling to patient and extended family relative to recommendations and treatment options.

    3. Plans and conducts treatment programs for patients with speech, language, voice and/or swallowing impairments. Develops individual short term and long-term treatment goals. Implements plans to achieve treatment goals, modifying therapy strategies as necessary to maximize progress.

    4. Provides and participates in in-service education and training of speech pathology interns and fellows, medical students/residents, and allied medical personnel. Prepares and presents formal lectures to physicians, nurses, educators, and others on communication and/or swallowing disorders. Provides unique training for speech pathology graduate interns who are assigned to the department for clinical practicum training. Participates in in-service education programs to ensure proficiency and skills in current techniques for the evaluation and treatment of patients.

    5. Continuously seeks to improve patient care services and evaluates opportunities to develop new services. Coordinates and prioritizes the patient caseload to ensure that all patient services are rendered efficiently to minimize delays in diagnosis or therapeutic intervention. Provides patient services in a manner which maximizes efficiency, efficacy, and quality without need for continuous supervision.

    6. Evaluates options for augmentative/alternative communication and recommends and/or fits appropriate devices or prostheses to meet patient needs, as applicable.

    7. Ensures that age/developmentally appropriate patient care is provided in accordance with Age-Specific Care Guidelines for the specific age groups served.

    8. Ensures the ongoing assessment, maintenance, and continual improvement of staff competence related to age-specific needs of patients.

    9. Adequate performance on financial/budget expectations. Meets productivity target consistently each year.

    10. Adheres to the general hospital standards to promote a cooperative work environment by utilizing communication skills, interpersonal relationships and team building.

    SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS: Effective oral and written communication skills. Contact with patients, family members, visitors, coworkers and medical staff under a wide variety of circumstances. Ability to work with infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and older adult patients Possesses a strong, clinical interest and maintains versatility, creativity and adaptability. Independent performance of clinical skills, decision-making, and daily scheduling
