QUALIFICATIONS
REPORTS TO: Building Principal, Director of Pupil Services/Special Education, District Administrator
SUPERVISES: Special Education Paraprofessional, where applicable
JOB GOAL: To provide children assigned to special education programs with a learning environment that will facilitate speech and language development while maximizing student participation in the least restrictive environment.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Plan, manage, deliver, and evaluate a full range of speech and language intervention services to students per the evaluation team (E-team)/Individualized Education Plan (IEP) process.
Provide direct consultative support to teachers and parents of students suspected of or identified with a speech and language impairment.
Coordinate special education services with other academic and related services personnel in collaboration with regular education staff.
Provide individualized unbiased assessment of students' speech and language development.
Complete reports required as part of the E-team process.
Plan, develop, and implement student IEPs cooperatively with school staff, parents, and appropriate service personnel.
Assist regular education staff in student inclusion efforts through activities including but not limited to: • Student monitoring • Modification of teaching methods • Materials • Student grading • Supplementary and team teaching • Behavior management
Consult with school personnel regarding students assigned to special education programs to ensure consistency with the IEP (i.e., goals/objectives, transition, accommodations and modifications, student discipline, behavior and safety plans).
Provide supervision, training, and evaluation of special education paraprofessionals, as assigned.
Follow appropriate procedures for administering/monitoring medical plans, as necessary.
Maintain clean and comprehensive records (IEP progress and billing forms) in confidence.
American Speech Language Hearing Association (ASHA) certified speech/language pathologists are encouraged to supervise clinical fellowship year students and/or university students completing their graduate extern semester in speech/language pathology.
Maintain awareness and current research and procedures relevant to the instruction and educational management of students in special education programs.
Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned in accordance with federal laws, rules, and regulations.
