Speech Language Pathologist (Per Diem)

Role Summary

As a Speech Language Pathologist at Howard University Hospital, you will evaluate and treat patients with speech, language, swallowing, voice, and cognitive disorders across the lifespan. This role prioritizes evaluations for patients admitted with CVA diagnoses and those requiring swallowing assessments. You will develop and implement individualized treatment plans and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to support safe swallowing, functional communication, and improved patient outcomes.

What You’ll Do

  • Assess and treat patients with speech, language, swallowing, voice, and cognitive disorders (adult and pediatric populations)
  • Develop and implement individualized treatment plans with measurable short- and long-term goals
  • Provide clinical information to physicians and interdisciplinary teams to support modifications to treatment plans
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation including medical necessity, treatment plans, goals, and patient response
  • Perform bedside and instrumental swallowing evaluations (MBS/FEES) as appropriate
  • Participate in quality improvement activities, continuing education, and department in-services
  • Maintain required clinical competencies including DPNS, LSVT, e-stim, and PMSV use as applicable
  • Perform additional duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Master’s degree from an accredited program in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders

Experience

  • Minimum three (3) years of clinical experience in an acute care setting
  • Experience with Modified Barium Swallow (MBS) studies preferred

Licensure & Certification

  • ASHA Certification (CCC-SLP)
  • Current DC licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist

Core Competencies

  • Knowledge of rehabilitation policies and clinical documentation standards
  • Ability to assess communication and swallowing disorders and exercise independent clinical judgment
  • Strong interdisciplinary collaboration skills
  • Commitment to HIPAA compliance and patient confidentiality

Pay + Schedule

Schedule: Part-Time | Sunday–Saturday | 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM
Pay Range: $55.00/hour (fixed rate)
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Union Status: Non-Union
