    Description

    Setting: Outpatient Rehab Clinic

We are seeking a compassionate, skilled, and dedicated Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to join our clinical team in Tuscaloosa, AL. In this outpatient role, you will provide holistic care to patients across the lifespan—from young children to seniors—addressing speech, language, cognitive-communication, and swallowing disorders. Join us in making a lasting impact on our community’s communication and quality of life!

You will work as part of a collaborative, multidisciplinary clinical team alongside Physical Therapists and Occupational Therapists to deliver individualized, goal-oriented care that restores function and improves our patients' overall quality of life.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Comprehensive Patient Evaluations: Conduct standardized and informal assessments for speech, articulation, expressive/receptive language, voice, fluency, swallowing/dysphagia, and cognitive-communication function.

    • Individualized Treatment Planning: Develop evidence-based plans of care tailored to each patient’s unique goals, diagnoses, and functional needs across the lifespan.

    • Therapeutic Interventions:

      • Administer targeted speech and language therapy to improve articulation, phonology, and expressive/receptive language skills.

      • Implement feeding and swallowing therapy (dysphagia management), incorporating oral-motor exercises and safe swallowing protocols.

      • Deliver cognitive-communication therapy to enhance memory, sequencing, problem-solving, safety awareness, and executive functioning.

      • Introduce compensatory strategies and augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices as appropriate.

    • Patient & Family Education: Educate patients, caregivers, and families on home exercise programs, safe swallowing precautions, and communication strategies to maintain progress outside the clinic.

    • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Partner closely with physical therapists, occupational therapists, physicians, and administrative staff to deliver coordinated, holistic care.

    • Documentation & Compliance: Maintain timely, precise clinical documentation (evaluations, daily progress notes, re-evaluations, and discharge summaries) in full alignment with state licensure requirements, ASHA guidelines, and facility standards.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • Education: Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Sciences and Disorders from an accredited university program.
    • Licensure: Active (or eligible for) Speech-Language Pathologist license issued by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology (ABESPA).
    • Certification: Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). (Clinical Fellows / CF-SLP may be considered based on supervision availability).
    • Key Traits & Skills:
      • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
      • Strong organizational and time-management capabilities.
      • High level of intrinsic motivation, initiative, and adaptability.
      • Experience treating diverse patient populations across lifespan (pediatric to geriatric) in an outpatient setting is preferred.
