Job Description Summary

Unified Community Connections is seeking a Speech-Language Pathologist to join its growing Assistive Technology Department. This position offers an SLP with experience and interest in Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) and Assistive Technology (AT) the opportunity to develop or expand expertise in this specialized area of practice.

The SLP will conduct AAC, speech-language, and assistive technology assessments; identify and trial appropriate technology solutions; prepare comprehensive assessment reports; and provide individualized therapy and training services to individuals with a variety of disabilities.

In addition to AAC, the SLP will have the opportunity to work with a broad range of assistive technologies designed to support communication, physical access, cognition, low vision, independence, education, employment, and participation in everyday activities.

This is a community-based position that requires regular day travel throughout Maryland. Candidates must be willing and able to drive to client locations and independently manage a flexible schedule and caseload. Travel reimbursement is provided.

Candidates with AAC/AT experience are encouraged to apply; however, extensive assistive technology experience is not required. We welcome SLPs with AAC experience, an interest in technology, strong clinical and problem-solving skills, and a desire to develop greater expertise in assistive technology.

This position is well suited to an SLP who enjoys assessment, technology, problem-solving, professional writing, collaboration, and working independently. The role provides the opportunity to work with a wide range of communication and assistive technologies while helping individuals increase communication, independence, and participation in their everyday lives.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Conduct needs-based AAC and speech-language assessments and develop treatment plans.
• Conduct assistive technology assessments in areas including physical access, cognitive supports, and low vision.
• Identify, trial, and recommend AAC and assistive technology solutions based on individual needs.
• Provide AT, AAC, and speech-language therapy and training services to individuals with disabilities.
• Provide training to clients, families, caregivers, and support staff in the implementation and use of recommended AAC and AT.
• Assist with troubleshooting and problem-solving related to AAC and AT.
• Prepare written reports and required documentation.
• Oversee application and approval of funding for AAC devices.
• Complete case management responsibilities, including referrals, scheduling, billing, team meetings, and service provision.
• Maintain accurate assessment records and therapy/training logs.
• Participate in ongoing professional development.
• Travel during the workday to provide services throughout assigned areas of Maryland, including Baltimore, Anne Arundel, Carroll, Frederick, Harford, Howard, Montgomery, Prince George’s, and Washington Counties. Travel reimbursement is provided.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited college or university.
• Current Maryland Speech-Language Pathology license.
• Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology (CCC-SLP) from ASHA.
• Minimum of one year of experience related to AAC service provision.
• Strong oral and written communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with assistive technology is preferred but not required.

Physical Requirements

Audio-visual acuity sufficient to perform job-related assessment activities. Ability to reach, stoop, crouch, push, walk, stand, and lift up to 25 pounds.
