POSITION GOAL
To apply the principles, practice, and methods related to the identification and treatment of communication disorders to the development and implementation of speech-language therapy programs for students.
ESSENTIAL PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
The Speech-Language Pathologist shall carry out the performance responsibilities listed below:
• Use standardized screening tests and other methods to identify students with potential speech and language disorders. • Develop an efficient referral procedure to respond to requests for services by teachers, parents, and others. • Select, administer, and analyze diagnostic assessments to identify students with speech and language disorders. • Comply with the state and district procedures to determine students eligible for speech and language therapy services. • Participate in multidisciplinary teams and conferences for the benefit of students. • Use diagnostic information as well as other educationally relevant information to develop an individual education plan (IEP) and recommend speech and language therapy services. • Provide an array of speech and language therapy services to students based on their individual needs. • Continuously evaluate the progress of students receiving speech and language therapy services. • Recommend reevaluation procedures for students to determine the need for continued speech and language therapy services or dismissal. • Select, use, and maintain materials, equipment, or supplies needed to provide a speech and language therapy program. • Provide training to other school staff, parents, and the community about the goals of the speech and language therapy program. • Participate in continuing education to maintain professional skills. • Collaborate with teachers and parents for the benefit of students. • Communicate with outside agencies for the benefit of students. • Direct the activities of speech-language assistants to implement specified program services. • Keep accurate and current records on students. • Cooperate with district, other administrators, and support personnel for the benefit of students. • Conform to all rules and regulations that may be prescribed by the state and the school board. • Perform and promote all activities in compliance with equal employment and non-discrimination policies of The school Board of Broward County. • Participate successfully in the training programs offered to increase the individuals skill and proficiency related to the assignments. • Review current developments, literature, and technical sources of information related to job responsibility. • Ensure adherence to good safety procedures. • Follow federal and state laws as well as school board policies. • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or designee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
An earned masters degree in speech pathology and Florida state certification in speech-language impaired.
Permit the School Board to hire Bachelor-level personnel to meet the school districts critical need necessary to serve the needs of students requiring Speech-Language services. The Board will consider individuals eligible for a temporary certificate in speech-language impaired who agree to enroll in and remain in good standing in a graduate program of study leading to a Masters degree in speech-language pathology unless prohibited by changes in state statute.
Computer skills as required for the position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Light work. Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force as frequently as needed to move objects.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the Districts approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the School Board.
