JOB DESCRIPTION

I. TITLE

• Speech-Language Specialist

II. PRIMARY FUNCTION

• To help reduce or eliminate speech and hearing impediments that interfere with the student's ability to derive full benefit from the district's educational program

III. REPORTS TO

• Assistant Superintendent for Pupil-Special Services

IV. QUALIFICATIONS

• Master's Degree with specialization in Speech-Language Pathology
• Minimum of three (3) years' experience in speech/speech therapy preferred
• Must hold NJ certificate as Speech-Language Specialist
• Such other qualifications of academic, professional and personal excellence as the Edison Township Board of Education may specify

V. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Makes assessment, analyses and classifications of students' communication competencies and characteristics
• Plans, prepares and delivers treatment programs for children with speech and language deficiencies
• Provides diagnostic evaluation of public referred to the child study team for communication disorders and participates in team conferences related to those pupils
• Develops and implements an individual educational program in conjunction with parents and teachers for pupils who are eligible for speech correction
• Provides individual and small-group intervention session with students who have been classified
• Maintains close liaison with the child study team
• Keeps all necessary records for all students and completes all required local, state and federal reports
• Conducts ongoing evaluations of all children in the program to determine appropriateness of their program
• Acts as educational consultant to classroom teachers, guidance counselors and administrators as required
• Performs such other duties as may be assigned by the Superintendent or designee

VI.TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

• September 1 to June 30 and in accordance with the provisions of the BOE/ETEA contract
