      SUMMARY: 

      As a Speech Pathologist, your empathy, compassion, and exceptional evaluation abilities lead to rehabilitative treatment programs that restore or improve patients’ optimal level of function, independence, and quality of life. 

      Speech therapy focuses on the improvement of language, communication, swallowing, and fluency. One of the most common symptoms that we treat is dysphagia, which refers to difficulty swallowing. Dysphagia can be caused by a stroke, multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, cancer, or healing from a physical injury, and can affect your tongue, mouth, throat, or esophagus.

      Our speech-language pathologists start with a thorough diagnostic evaluation and then create a customized treatment plan.

      RESPONSIBILITIES: 

      • Evaluation & Planning - Perform a complete initial evaluation of referred patient; develop and implement treatment plans, including appropriate short- and long-term goals; involve the patient, family, and staff in the implementation of the treatment program; re-evaluate patient's functional status progressively; advance patient toward maximal performance and functional independence. 

      • Documentation - Maintain a complete documentation of patient evaluations, treatment, progress, and discharge status; send required information to appropriate professionals. 

      • Collaboration - Actively participate in rehabilitation team efforts to meet patient needs, including counseling and teaching patient and family, discussing changes in treatment programs with MDs, coordinating healthcare plans with other involved professionals, and assisting in discharge planning as appropriate. 

      REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

      • Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology or Communication Disorders (may be MA, MS, Med). 

      • New York State licensure OR For recent graduates: Completion of at least 9 months supervised Clinical Fellowship year OR Eligible to participate in supervised Clinical Fellowship year by a NYS licensed Speech Language Pathologist with a NYS Limited permit and followed by the NYS licensure examination and achievement of NYS license. 

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

      • One (1) year of experience with the frail elderly population is preferred. 

      • Compassionate, warm, and patient-focused. 

      • Excellent organization and planning skills.

      PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

      Light - Clinical - Light clinical roles involve frequent standing and walking, with occasional lifting of light objects (20 lbs.) and routine reaching, grasping, and fine manipulation for tasks such as patient care, laboratory work, or specimen processing. Staff rely on strong visual and auditory acuity to accurately observe specimens, read instrumentation, monitor patients, respond to alarms, and communicate effectively with care teams. Cognitive demands include multitasking, prioritizing clinical and laboratory workflows, and coordinating with interdisciplinary teams. Emotional resilience is necessary due to frequent interruptions, shifting priorities, and the need for precise and compassionate interaction with patients and colleagues. Environmental exposures may include infectious materials, biological specimens, cleaning agents, sharps, chemical reagents, and wet surfaces. PPE use, TB testing, and schedule flexibility are commonly required.

      The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
