Overview

The Pediatric Speech Therapist assumes primary responsibility for assessment, diagnosis and treatment of speech, language, social communication, cognitive communication and swallowing disorders in the pediatric population, birth to age 21. The therapist collaborates with other professionals on the patient's medical team, maintains adequate records, and documents the appropriate progress reports and patient education. The therapist supervises support staff and students as assigned.

Qualifications

Education required: Master's Degree from an Accredited Institution in the area of Speech Therapy/Communication Disorders required.

License, certification and/or registration: ASHA Certification of Clinical Competence in Speech Pathology, or eligible to begin CFY with successful completion of nation exam required. Alabama license in Speech Pathology or applicant with licensure pending CFY completion required. Must receive BCLS certification within orientation period.

Experience: Prefer pediatric experience with speech/language/swallowing/feeding disorders. Training/experience for participation in Modified Barium Swallows

Additional skills/abilities: Must have excellent communication skills with the ability and willingness to work with all patients in a fast-paced environment.
