Love sports? Passionate about storytelling, social media, photography, or content creation? If youre ready to gain hands-on experience while helping showcase Bismarck State Mystics Athletics, this internship is your chance to step into the action.

Bismarck State College is seeking a Sports Information Intern to assist with the daily operations of the Sports Information Office. From live game coverage and official statistics to feature stories, photography, social media, and website management, youll help tell the stories that bring Mystics Athletics to life.

This is a grant-funded, part-time position scheduled to run through May 2027. Work hours will vary from week to week based on game schedules, tournaments, and departmental needs, including evenings and weekends.

What Youll Do

Game Day Operations

Help ensure BSC Mystics home events run smoothly by:

  • Assisting the Sports Information Director with game-day operations.
  • Serving as the official statistician for NAIA athletic contests.
  • Providing live game coverage through social media.
  • Capturing game-day photography and/or video.
  • Potentially serving as the primary sports information contact for assigned sports, depending on department needs.

Writing & Editing

Bring the stories of Mystics Athletics to life by:

  • Writing, editing, and distributing press releases, game recaps, student-athlete features, department news, and related content.
  • Utilizing AP writing style (preferred).

Graphic Design, Photography & Videography

Help create engaging visual content by:

  • Designing graphics for digital and print materials using Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Capturing photos and videos during athletic contests, events, and media days.
  • Editing visual content using Adobe Photoshop, Premiere, Lightroom, or similar software.

Social Media Management

Keep Mystics fans connected by:

  • Assisting the Sports Information Coordinator and head coaches with managing team social media accounts.
  • Creating engaging content that highlights student-athletes, teams, and special events.

Website Management

Help maintain an accurate and engaging athletics website by:

  • Updating BSCMystics.com with news releases, rosters, schedules, and statistics.
  • Assisting with website content management and game results.

Miscellaneous Duties

  • Support innovative ideas that enhance departmental processes and visibility.
  • Assist with additional projects and responsibilities that promote BSC Athletics.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Sports Management, Public Relations, Marketing, or related field completed prior to the start date.
  • Experience in collegiate athletics, sports media, or game-day operations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure, balance multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with coaches, athletes, and media partners.
  • Task-oriented with excellent organizational skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience with social media content creation is preferred.
  • Experience with sports photography and videography is preferred.
  • Experience with statkeeping software such as PrestoStats and NCAA Live Stats.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, Lightroom)
