SALINA FAMILY YMCA-JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: Sport Trainer SUPERVISOR: Sports Director DEPARTMENT: Sports FLSA STATUS: Part-time, Hourly REVISED: February 2026 POSITION SUMMARY Under the direction of the Sports Director, the sport trainer will carry out the tasks necessary for smooth operation of the sports department. This person must possess advanced knowledge, fundamentals and development of a specific sport. Must acquire communication skills and the ability to design personalized drills to exemplify the YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS - Responsible for providing a safe environment for the member.
- Responsible for the general appearance and cleanliness of the facilities.
- Take required courses and certifications through the YMCA if necessary.
- Responsible for seeing that all participants are using the facilities correctly.
- Responsible for helping participants by answering questions to the best of your ability and within your scope of practice.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members; helps members connect with each other and the YMCA.
- Responsible for having all required paperwork completed and filled out appropriately.
- Educate members on your specific sports and skills.
- Alert the coordinator or director if any problems occur.
- Return any calls left to make appointments and then notify the director to reserve the facilities and inventory that are needed.
- Provide exceptional customer service by greeting all participants, always maintaining a clean and safe facility and demonstration professional conduct.
- Responds to challenges with possible solutions in a timely manner.
- All other duties as requested.
QUALIFICATIONS - The ideal candidate will possess a high level of interest in the sport. Either by playing or coaching at the club, high school or college level for numerous years.
- Must possess the necessary skills to train clients to improve in their sport. Great knowledge of rules, development, skills and fundamentals.
- Must have background knowledge of basic, intermediate and advanced drills to tailor personalized development programs for all populations.
- Certification: CPR/FA, withing 30 days of hire.
- Must regularly up to date with the sport.
- Able to stand, and bend to perform appropriate tasks. Be active.
- Must be able to move at an appropriate pace to respond to emergencies.
- Follow all safety requirements of the Salina Family YMCA.
- Work in different temperature environments.
EFFECTS ON END RESULTS - This position has a primary impact on the overall effectiveness of the YMCA, as they are dealing directly with the public through program orientations and customer service. Good judgment and confidence in implementing program policies and effective communication with the members and general public must be exercised.
