Spotsylvania County Public Schools is seeking a student-focused, dedicated hourly Paraeducator to assist teachers and other professional practitioners by providing instructional support in self-contained classrooms with students who have special needs. Autism Developmental Delays Multiple Disabilities Learning Support and Behavior Support whose educational needs are not met by a general education environment.

Essential Job Functions

  • Assist students with the organization and completion of daily work assignments
  • Assist in maintaining a safe, nurturing, and healthy atmosphere, which may include assisting students with social skill development, personal hygiene, toiletry needs, and toilet training
  • Follows established procedures for monitoring and redirecting student behavior when supervising small groups
  • Maintains and organizes students instructional materials and/or cumulative files
  • Administer and/or assist with preparing for various assessments for students as necessary
  • Uses special skills, i.e., sign language, transliterating advanced computer training to assist in two-way communication between the teacher and the student as necessary
  • Performs additional non-instructional duties, including but not limited to cafeteria duty, bus duty, hall duty, and office duty

Education and Experience

  • Required: High School Diploma or GEDA minimum of two (2) years working with children within an instructional, educational, or related setting
  • Special Requirements: Special education teachers assigned to work with students with emotional disabilities should have been trained in MANDT methodology and should receive additional training as appropriate annually

Employment Terms

  • Employment may be offered as a 10-Month, 185-Day contract at a minimum of 7.5 hours worked per day
  • This position is evaluated annually
  • Additional compensation awarded for credits earned toward advanced degrees
