Job Summary:
Provides support to SPS and the OR by delivering needed surgical instruments, supplies and equipment. Transport sterile case carts and vendor trays to the OR. Transport soiled instrument case carts to SPS for reprocessing immediately following surgical case completion. Responsible for the picking of surgical cases for next day as assigned. Picks add-on and emergency surgical cases as needed. Helps ensure availability of surgical instruments in OR by coordinating with SPS on any turn over and priority surgical items. Organize hallways and storage rooms in OR.
Key areas of responsibility
Provides support to OR rooms by answering requests for needed instruments, supplies and equipment as assigned.
Executes case cart picking function as assigned using proper pick sheets, adherence to standard setup, quality assurance and timely delivery of end product. Utilizes proper forms and procedures to document picking of each item. Adheres to established department production standards for instrumentation case cart assembly, decontamination, sterilization and preparation and packaging.
Retrieves soiled case carts from Operating Room and delivers to the decontamination area. Adherence to Safety Standards, Blood and Bodily Fluid Precautions and Hand Washing. Strictly follows the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards including the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) standards.
Delivers medical-surgical instruments and supplies to the Operating Room and Surgical Suites. Stocking of linen and clinical floor sets on clinical floors.
Utilizes SPM instrument tracking system and/or Tecsys supply management system when delivering needed items and picking surgical cases to ensure ability to track inventory levels and trace items used to specific patient.
Efficiently and accurately inspects and maintains sterility of packages, wrapped instruments and supplies before delivering to OR for use.
Maintains SPS Inventory in OR cores and Surgical Specialty Carts, and replenishes medical-surgical supplies by par level.
Perform other related duties as required.

Must be able to lift 40 pounds.
Thorough understanding of the Safety Standards, Blood and Bodily Fluid Precautions and Hand Washing. Strictly follows the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) standards including the Association of Perioperative Registered Nurses (AORN) and HIPAA standards
Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions
Effectively communicate technical information.
Basic computer skills (including opening/reading email, basic internet use).
Working knowledge of medical terminology.
Excellent interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with departments, employees, physicians and managers.
